Graduate Employability in 2013
The Highfliers research "Graduate Market in 2013" reported that more employment opportunities will be available to graduates during 2013. However, those that have no work experience have little or no hope in securing a job.
The research has suggested that around 50% of employers hope to recruit extra graduates this year, whilst a further 30% hope to maintain their numbers from last year. 11 in ever 13 key industries expect to employ more new graduates than in 2012.
More jobs for graduates in 2013 sounds great but this is also coupled with more job applications. Over 30% of employers said that they had received more completed job applications and the UK's leading graduate employers saw a 7% increase in applications.
However, over 50% of employers warned that applicants with no previous work experience are unlikely to be successful in their job application and have little or no chance of securing an offer.
The key message coming out of the research is that young people need to gain work experience to even stand a chance to secure the job they want, when they graduate.
This message highlights the need for companies like MyKindaCrowd, who offer young people a unique way to connect with employers.
MyKindaCrowd work with top employers like RBS, McDonalds, Cisco and KPMG. Together they set challenges and offer the winner prizes, like work experience or placements. MyKindaCrowd have won the UK's most prestigious Social Enterprise awards; UnLtd 'Big Venture Challenge' and BiTC Olympic Legacy 'Arc' award.
