ReStart with Allen & Overy
Following the success of its award-winning work experience programme The Smart Start Experience, leading international law firm Allen & Overy has partnered again with MyKindaFuture to pilot a brand new free programme for adults over the age of 50. The programme is aimed at individuals who have been made unemployed to help increase their confidence in their next step, whatever that may be.
The programme is aimed at individuals who are over 50, living in London and who have been unemployed for between six months and a year. Through workshops, mentoring and digital modules, participants are supported to rediscover strengths and to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to help them get back to work.
ReStart will support people from any background or profession, particularly those who have a fresh outlook on their future employment and would consider changing roles or industries.*
Allen & Overy partner, Maria Stimpson, explains: “The most successful workplaces have a multi-generational workforce and benefit from the immense amount of experience, maturity and skills that older employees can contribute.
“By helping those over the age of 50 to get back into work after a period of unemployment, we can minimise the damage long-term unemployment does to individuals and their families – which is also a major barrier to social mobility.”
The programme will run over three months, starting in April, and will include three masterclasses at Allen & Overy's offices in Liverpool Street, digital support through e-learning and mentoring from a mentor at Allen & Overy.
The three masterclasses will focus on the following:
1. Building confidence and using personal networks
2. Taking a new direction and non-traditional employment
3. Utilising online application tools
Essential criteria for individuals to take part in this programme include:
- To be over the age of 50
- To have been unemployed for above 27 weeks and less than a year
- To live in London and be able to travel to the Allen & Overy offices for the three masterclasses* *
- To have an open mindset and willingness to learn new things
* Please note, ReStart is a skills development and mentoring programme. It is not an apprenticeship or guarantee of employment.
**Travel expenses will be covered.
