Making the most of the festive break - top tips for a great internship application!
The festive break can be a busy time catching up with family and preparing for January exams. This holiday break is also the perfect time to have a think about what you might like to do next summer and to apply for an internship before you are out of time. If you are not sure what you want to do or where to start then the following tips may help.
Start by making a list or a mind map of things you enjoy doing and your strengths or make a list or mind map of companies or products you admire.
The research to see what roles these companies have available. Ask friends, careers advisors and even family members about their career experiences too. Then you can match your interests and strengths to an internship role of interest.
Review the competencies your chosen company looks for and ensure you tailor your application to these and remember to sell your strengths! It may be a good idea to map out examples of when you have held leadership roles, developed new ideas or processes, or perhaps examples that show off your competencies that match your company of interest. Core competencies are usually publicised on company websites.
