Challenge details

As part of the lead-up to the Rio+20 Earth Summit in Brazil in June 2012, the Living Rainforest is pleased to announce the launch of an international essay competition for students, Dear Mr. UN Secretary-General … We want to hear what young people think governments and world leaders should be doing to build a more sustainable future on planet Earth.

Don’t let the future pass you by

Almost twenty years ago, world leaders and major environment groups got together in Rio de Janeiro for one of the largest international summits ever held – the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. Many promises were made and, in the intervening years, many promises were broken. Unfortunately, it has proven difficult to live up to the vision of ‘sustainable development’ to which everyone signed up. How can world leaders live up to their past commitments? Is it possible to maintain our way of life without harming the environment? How on Earth can we save species and ecosystems under threat? This is your chance for your voice to be heard at the Rio+20 Earth Summit in Brazil!
