About Creative Youth

CREATIVE YOUTH is a charity born from The International Youth Arts Festival Kingston (IYAF) which was established in 2008 with the ambition to create a festival of national importance, showcasing youth arts (5-26yrs) of the highest quality. In five years, we have made considerable strides in achieving this goal. In late 2010, the charity changed its name to reflect the year-long programme of work we now undertake, culminating and celebrated in the annual International Youth Arts Festival Kingston.

Creative Youth enables young people to realise their potential through the arts. We allow young people to be involved with innovative, original, ambitious projects and work with artists of the highest quality, often encouraging the artists themselves to take risks and push boundaries within their own work. In  close collaboration with key partners, we mentor young individuals, entrepreneurs and organisations by providing artistic, business and strategic support, allowing the next generation of artists to flourish.

Our commitment is to ensure that young people, whatever their skills or backgrounds, are involved in high-quality arts projects.  As well as targeting some of the most vulnerable young people in our community, we also reach out to large and diverse audiences, as demonstrated by our commitment to using public spaces, street arts and digital technology, enabling us to reach new and untapped audiences.

Volunteering

We have a volunteering programme which has a core team of 50 volunteers, increasing to more than 120 during the festival period, who work on a multitude of projects and are accredited through the vInspired programme. The majority of these volunteers had almost no experience of the arts when they began and, for many, it has been a life-changing experience.

The International Youth Arts Festival Kingston 2013

Now in its 5th year, the Festival will run from 6th July to 28th July 2013. It will showcase the highest quality of a diverse range of youth arts, including theatre, dance, music, visual arts, comedy, circus, carnival and film, selected from Kingston, the UK and Worldwide.
