About HSBC

HSBC was founded in Hong Kong on 3rd March 1865. Today, HSBC has around 3,900 offices in 67 countries and territories worldwide, and around 38 million customers bank with us and employ over 233,000 people in the world. 

HSBC was celebrated as 'World's Best Bank' in the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2017.  We speak 144 different languages, and in 2016 donated $137 million to community investment programmes around the world. Plus, in 2016 HSBC employees volunteered 255,000 hours within work time. 

HSBC reported profits of $10.2 billion before tax in the first six months of 2017. We also paid $10.1 billion in shareholder dividends for 2016.

Using our teacher resources
We’ve created some helpful teacher resources. These include a lesson plan to help you demystify a career in banking for your students. We’ve designed the resources with HSBC to support applications to their work experience programmes, giving you information on the company and tools to build a stand out cover letter.
