A career with Tesco - the story!
Since joining Tesco Rebecca has moved from Merchandising to the Trade Planning team who are in charge of all promotion and events within Central Europe countries. Her day to day duties involve reviewing current and past promotions and thinking of ways in which Tesco can better these, using her negotiating and influencing skills to collaborate with nearly all departments in Central Europe, in house and local marketing teams, commercial teams, space/range and display, store stock planning, admin teams, business support and store communications. She also gets to lead meetings to gain commercials ideas and awareness.
Rebecca says that ‘the most important thing I have learnt whilst being out of full time education is that you never stop learning! There are always loads of courses to go on whether it be Excel, leadership skills or personal development skills which you are encouraged to go on.’
Her biggest achievement in her current role is her recent promotion to Assistant Trade Planner.
We asked Rebecca, what her top 3 tips would be for potential applicants who are considering applying for a school leaver programme. Here is her advice:
- Be passionate and confident in everything you do. Being confident in your own ability will prove to others you know what you’re doing and make you feel assertive and logical.
- Be inquisitive. Try and get involved with as many people as possible, whether it’s to find out about what they do, or joining an out of hours social club. Connecting with people not only means building friendships, but also support for when you need advice or a favour.
- Be excited! Tesco is a fast paced company where things are ever evolving. They welcome change and new ideas, so don’t be afraid to share your thoughts. There is so much opportunity to do whatever you want to do.
Rebecca is one of many school leavers on a programme with Tesco who loves it! If you are interested in becoming a Tesco employee, feel free to look at their school leaver and graduate programmes here.
