How Tech is saving lives

Today is World Health Day, a day to celebrate the incredible advances happening every day in healthcare.

Tata Consultancy Services has teamed up with MyKindaFuture to launch ‘Digital Explorers’, a web platform that explores all the incredible things technology is doing to make the world a better place - and how you can develop the tech skills to secure your dream job in the industry.   This month, we've released a new module that looks at how 3D printers are revolutionising the provision of affordable prosthetic limbs.

Prosthetic limbs are necessary to provide an improved quality of life for people who have lost limbs through war, genetic defects, disease and through accidents.  Prosthetic limbs allow these people to live independent lives, to play sports, to play music instruments, to do the housework, eat and much much more.  But up until now, they have been incredibly expensive to produce, meaning people - especially in developing countries - have not been able to benefit from these opportunities.  3D printing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created.   Crucially, they make the creation of things like prosthetic limbs much, much cheaper.    Join the Digital Explorers site to find out how!

Beyond this, the Digital Explorers site contains quizzes, games, videos and challenges all focused on the world of tech. You can learn to code in one module and find out which tech career path is perfect for you in the other.  What's more - for every video you watch or story you read, you earn points, which count towards you winning great tech prizes like Beats Headphones and Fire Tablets.  The UK tech industry is in desperate need of young, talented people so join the Digital Explorers platform, tell a friend, tell a family member, tell just about anyone who will listen and get them to join Digital Explorers! Keep an eye out for our ‘#worldhealthday’ on Twitter for more info on World Health Day.
