How to find the perfect career for you

How often do we come across people who have no idea on what career path to take and just jump into a random career just for the sake of 'having a job' and ‘making money’ and, oh, how often do we come across people who absolutely hate their job? Those "ugh, not Monday again, do I really have to get up to go to work, why can't it just be Friday already? A little too often. I mean, if you're going to be working till you're 65, you might as well do something you enjoy, right? Right. Can I get an amen? Yes, thank you, now, let's get started.

So, the question is simple: so how do I find the perfect career for me?

Here are a few simple and easy steps to get you started and prepared for the world of work:

1. Self-awareness.

The first and most important step is to determine exactly who you are, your strengths, your weaknesses (yes, you do have weaknesses, too, as do we all, we’re all human) and unlock what motivates you. A great place to start would be by taking this self-awareness test. Make sure to be as honest as possible – remember there are no right or wrong answers. When you carry out this kind of self-assessment, you will find that it will help you understand exactly what type of career path is perfect for you. There are SO many opportunities out there, so when opportunities come along you will be confident to make the best choice possible for you.

2. Create a list.

Now, after you have established a clear idea of who you are, your strengths, your weaknesses, you're ready to unlock what motivates you. Congrats, you're also a step closer to finding your dream career. Also, include in your list what exactly it is that you are looking for in a career, for example, do you prefer to work on your own or with others? What does your ideal workplace environment look like? For example, it could be: outdoors, an office, at home, the gym, a library, a showroom, a museum, Buckingham palace – hey we don’t judge! You do what makes you happy.

Also, take into consideration: your passions. What are you passionate about? What makes you really happy, like really, really happy, like the type of happy you get when you see your food arriving at a restaurant – no? OK, just me then.

3.Use online resources.

The internet is your best friend. Use it. You can find amazing resources which are super helpful and most often, usually free (who doesn’t love free?) These will really help you on your search to the perfect career. Here are some great online resources.

4. Valuable Career coaching events.

Time to take things to the next level! Career coaching sessions/events will transform your life, seriously. A career coach is someone who will help to encourage progress, they will also suggest alternatives that you may not have thought of, or even considered, but may actually really enjoy, such a breath of fresh air, right? They also can be a sense of inspiration, you know, that extra push that we all need, every once in a while, OK, quite often. They encourage your inner motivation that you didn’t realise were actually there, from deep within – just waiting to be unleashed. This will help to keep you on track and open up more possible opportunities for you. A win-win situation, I must say.

5. Taking the first step.

So, now you have all you need. You are ready to take the first step into your perfect career path. Good luck!
