MVF share how they are breaking the mould with transferrable degree backgrounds
One of our mottos at MVF is to ‘grow our own, our own way’ and we ensure this starts right at the beginning of the recruitment journey. Even though we’re a global Tech and Digital Marketing company, you’d be surprised to know that less than 5% of our 400-strong workforce holds a degree that’s related to what they’re doing – our President, Titus Sharpe, graduated in Artificial Intelligence!
Bobby Sebolao recently joined our Publishing team as a Writer after graduating in Law from New College of the Humanities. We asked him how he transferred the skills honed during his degree to his current role, ‘Every law student learns two things; how to write, and how to research independently. I decided that the legal profession wasn’t for me, but I knew these skills would help me to find work in any field. I was able to secure graduate jobs in India and the UK with standout written applications and by demonstrating my understanding of the companies in interviews.’
We also asked Laurence Booth-Clibborn how he found a role in Digital Marketing after graduating with a degree in History of Art from Cambridge University – ‘My History of Art degree gave me a critical mindset when assessing information which I have found really useful in my data-heavy job. It also taught me the value of thorough research which I have found invaluable and finally, it pushed me to become a clear and effective communicator.’
Out of the 110 graduate roles we recruited for last year, not one of them required a specific degree. All we ask is for people to have a passion to learn, and a natural curiosity when it comes to Digital Marketing. If you’re looking for a developing company, then MVF is hiring throughout all of 2018 – check out our careers page for our live vacancies.
