Winner's Blog: 24 hours in Vienna
We made a flying visit to Vienna - we only had 24 hours to explore the city!
Having grabbed a free map from the youth hostel and using Katharine's dad's trusty guidebook, we set off into the centre of town on the U-Bahn.
Upon arrival at Shottenring, we immediately jumped on a tram that we thought would take us in a loop around the Ringstrasse - only to end up at the Prater instead! This turned out to be a lucky mistake, as we had a lovely morning stroll around this inner-city park, and then went on the Ferris wheel, which gave us some nice views across the rooftops of Vienna.
We then went to the famous Museumsplatz. Miriam decided to go to a Tracey Emin exhibition, whilst Katharine set off to Stephansplatz via the Parliament building and the Rathaus, which were both pretty spectacular.
The cathedral itself was beautiful; the patterned roof was a nice contrast against the white stone of the other buildings and monuments, and there were some lovely stained glass windows as well.
After sheltering from a sudden downpour (very welcome after the heat of Prague!), we made our way back to the hostel for a good nights sleep in preparation for our journey to Budapest the next day!
All in all, we loved our little trip to Vienna! We only wish we could have spent a few more days there, so as to explore the surrounding city and hills a little more. Definitely worth another visit!
Until next time!
